McLaren to Test Revised Car on Tuesday

McLaren will begin to test their new car at Silverstone on Tuesday, team boss Ron Dennis said at the European Grand Prix on Saturday.

Technical director Adrian Newey said at last weekend's Monaco Grand Prix that the team expects the revised car to offer a "significant improvement" in performance over the current machine, and testing will commence at the Northamptonshire track on Tuesday.

"It will run on Tuesday," said Dennis, "it is on time, it was always destined to run on that day and hopefully it will run on all three days of the test."

McLaren had hoped to challenge for the World Championship this season but have collected just five points from the opening six races and will race the MP4-19B machine as soon as possible in a bid to return to the front of the grid.

The team began last season with a development of their 2002 car, the MP4-17, and planned to introduce a new MP4-18 machine during the middle of the year to strengthen their Championship challenge.

But the new car hit problems in testing and after two crashes and several reliability issues they decided to continue with the modified version of the old car and never raced the MP4-18.
