Williams, Toyota Conclude Testing at Barcelona

After a week of testing at the circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona, Spain, Williams and Toyota were the last teams to continue testing today.

With only three drivers on track, Williams's test driver Antonio Pizzonia set the fastest time of the day, of 1:15.080, and was also the driver with most laps, covering a total of 114 laps around the Barcelona circuit.

Pizzonia was followed by fellow Williams driver Juan Pablo Montoya, who was less than two tenths of a second slower than the Brazilian, having covered a total of 42 laps.

Slowest of the three drivers today was Toyota's Cristiano da Matta, who was running without teammate Olivier Panis, after the Frenchman crashed heavily during testing yesterday and was left in hospital for overnight observation.

"It has been an extremely productive week at Barcelona, quite possibly the most productive we have had so far," da Matta commented at the end of testing. "I am happy with the performance of the car, and impressed with the way in which we have improved over the course of the week.

"We have worked mainly on set-up work and tyre tests and we have made steps ahead in every area. The car is certainly reliable, which we showed again by completing more than one race distance on each of the four days I have run this week."

The Formula One circus now takes a break from the Barcelona track, and the next time the F1 teams show up at the Catalan circuit will be in early April, after the Bahrain Grand Prix.
