Williams Resurgence Boosts British GP Tickets Sale

The resurgence of the Williams-BMW team has resulted in a demand for tickets for next week's British Grand Prix, organisers said today.

The Oxfordshire-based team have ended Ferrari's dominance after claiming one-two finishes in the last two events and British fans are scrambling for Silverstone tickets as a result.

"Straight after Sunday's race, Silverstone received a doubling of calls to the ticket line to book their place at the British Grand Prix," said Andrew Waller, managing director of promoters Brands Hatch Circuits Limited.

"It's great to see that British support for Formula One is very much alive and it's an even greater boost that we have such a strong British foothold and personal interest for the fans."

Williams won their first-ever Grand Prix at Silverstone in 1979 and will be looking to take the lead in the Constructors' Championship after moving three points behind leaders Ferrari.

Team owner Frank Williams said: "The British Grand Prix is an especially important race to Williams. We are anxious to close the gap to Ferrari and Michael Schumacher and we obviously hope to have a great fight."
