Button Confident of Getting Go-Ahead to Race

Briton Jenson Button is confident he will be given the go-ahead to compete in the Canadian Grand Prix this weekend following his crash in the Monaco Grand Prix 12 days ago.

The 23-year-old BAR-Honda driver will undergo a routine medical at Montreal's Circuit Gilles Villeneuve later today and he believes his participation will be confirmed by the FIA's medical delegate Professor Sid Watkins.

"It doesn't take long to get over something like that," said Button, who was knocked unconscious when he slammed into the barriers during practice for the Monaco Grand Prix. "I am feeling pretty good, I didn't do any testing last week and I have actually had a nice rest. We started training this week and everything seems fine. I haven't been pushing anything too hard but everything is working alright.

"I saw Sid on Tuesday, we did lots of different things but he just wants to check me out again to make sure, he needs another opinion. Everything was perfect on Tuesday, it is just a check again. There has been a lot of exciting stuff in the press that I won't be racing but as far as I know I will be."

BAR-Honda's reserve driver Takuma Sato is present in Montreal this weekend but Button is already looking forward to claiming his first points finish in Canada.

"I can't wait," he said. "Having two weeks off is nice to relax but you do want to get back in. I think a few people in the team were a little bit worried about me getting straight back in the car.

"I won't drive any differently. I think if you crash with another car it can be a little bit damaging when you go to overtake but when you do it on your own I don't think it should cause any problems."
