Button Fastest Again at Shortened Valencia - Final Day

BAR driver Jenson Button posted the fastest time on the final day of testing at Valencia, where the drivers worked on a shortened version of the circuit.

BAR driver Jenson Button posted the fastest time on the final day of testing at Valencia, where the drivers worked on a shortened version of the circuit.

Japanese tyre supplier Bridgestone decided to shorten the track length to 3.090 km in order to be able to run more laps around the Spanish track, which was artificially flooded to concentrate on wet-weather tyre testing.

"Overall this has been a very good test," said Button. "I did a huge amount of laps every day, which is great from a reliability point of view. We've got through a lot of tyre testing and now have some useful options and we've also run the new aero package which, although we need more time with it, is a positive step forward."

Button, who was in action for the second consecutive day, finished more than two seconds ahead of German Heinz-Harald Frentzen, who took over from Sauber teammate Nick Heidfeld.

"Today we have conducted a wet tyre test together with Bridgestone to find the best possible tyre composition," said Sauber's race engineer Remi Decorzent. "Another purpose of the test today was the finding of how to make tyres faster when the track is drying up. I think we have done a good job today, but now it must await analysis."

Japanese driver Takuma Sato replaced Canadian Jacques Villeneuve at the wheel of the second BAR, finishing at the bottom of the timesheets after 90 laps.
