Arrows targets race finish

The Arrows A23 was one of the last 2002 cars to be launched and despite showing good speed in the early races of this season reliability has been its weak spot

Drivers Enrique Bernoldi and Heinz-Harald Frentzen, who took Arrows' only finish in the first three races with 11th place in Malaysia, are hoping that the return of the F1 circus to Europe will coincide with a reversal in the team's fortunes.

Heinz-Harald Frentzen won the San Marino GP during his time as a Williams driver, so the Imola circuit holds fond memories. In 2001 he finished sixth in the race, the last time he scored an F1 point.

"The track is pretty special with some big braking areas and that gives us a new set of challenges," he said. "It is a strategic track and it should suit us well. I enjoy racing there, especially as the tremendous enthusiasm of the Italian fans makes for a great atmosphere."

Team-mate Bernoldi has yet to score a point in F1, but after three DNFs in a row, he's just hoping to make it to the flag on Sunday.

"I haven't been able to finish a race yet, so getting the car home really has to be my aim, but I'm confident that the car has good speed and hopefully we can mix it with the big boys here."

Arrows has competed in every San Marino GP since the race was first held, with the exception of the 1982 event, which it boycotted along with a number of other teams during the height of the FIA/FOCA war. Its best result at the track is two second places for Riccardo Patrese (1981) and Thierry Boutsen (1985). Arrows' last points at the track came in 1992 when Michele Alboreto was fifth.
