Alonso not getting carried away
Fernando Alonso says he is not getting carried away despite his great start to the season with the McLaren team
The Spanish driver is currently leading the championship after winning the Malaysian Grand Prix last Sunday.
He had finished second to Kimi Raikkonen at the season-opening race in Australia, marking a flawless start to life with his new team.
But despite his results, Alonso reckons it's too early to start thinking of the title.
"I don't want to talk about the title after two races," the Spaniard told his country's El Mundo newspaper in an interview. "Everything went well in Malaysia, but we can't get carried away.
"We have to remember that we were beaten fairly in Australia, and in Malaysia they (Ferrari) were the fastest until the race. But yes, we are in the battle with them."
Alonso moved to McLaren after winning two titles with the Renault team, and he admits he never expected to be able to win so early with his new outfit.
McLaren endured their first win-less season in a decade in 2006, but Alonso says the team's current form justifies his decision to switch.
"It's surprising that McLaren are in a situation to win so early," he added. "I think I have a few years to keep on winning with McLaren.
"About Renault I have to say that after a couple of years winning, there was going to be a moment when they would start declining, and that was one of the reasons why I announced I was moving to McLaren."
