Alesi May Miss Hungary

Prost driver Jean Alesi is in doubt for the Hungarian Grand Prix after the massive crash he was involved in during the race at Hockenheim.

Prost driver Jean Alesi is in doubt for the Hungarian Grand Prix after the massive crash he was involved in during the race at Hockenheim.

Alesi is undergoing tests, and says he would not be able to race in his current condition.

"I can still feel pain all over my body, especially abdominal pain because my first impact with the guard-rail, after Diniz had ripped off my wheel, was almost frontal," said Alesi.

"Nothing is broken, that was confirmed in a precautionary check-up," explained Alesi, "but I don't feel very well at all and I'm going to have some more tests.

"It is my intention to be present in Budapest," he continued, "but I will never be able to race in my current condition."

The accident which is causing Alesi so much pain occurred just over halfway through last Sunday's German Grand Prix, when Alesi went to overtake the Sauber of Pedro Diniz at over 300 km/h. Diniz moved across the track to take the racing line but Alesi's car was already alongside, putting both cars out of the race and sending Alesi into a series of spins across damp grass, including a heavy impact with the barriers.

"I've taken a few days rest to wipe out the memories of the crash," he said, "and to gather together my strength again for Hungary," added Alesi, not testing this week in an effort to help his recovery process.

Despite the comments Alesi and Diniz made after the accident, Alesi said that Diniz had phoned him to enquire about how he was doing, Alesi even managing to joke about the incident.

"I told him: 'just as well I didn't have a faster car, or the impact would have been even harder!'" joked Alesi.
