RBR cleared to continue, but under review
The FIA has said it will continue to review the safety of the suspension of Red Bull Racing's RB4, despite giving the team the green light to continue competing in the Malaysian Grand Prix
The team's cars took to the track in Saturday morning's free practice session at Sepang just minutes after the FIA confirmed it was to take no action against the team in the wake of David Coulthard's spectacular accident on Friday.
Red Bull Racing had been asked to submit a report to the race stewards detailing the strength of their suspension. It is understood that the report was submitted to the FIA overnight, with the race stewards evaluating the document throughout the morning and conducting an inspection of the car.
The FIA said the report was needed to explain why the stewards should not consider excluding the cars on the grounds of safety.
Article 2.3 of the technical regulations says that the "stewards of the meeting may exclude a vehicle whose construction is deemed to be dangerous."
Following evaluation of the matter on Saturday morning, the FIA issued a statement saying the team would be allowed to continue taking part in the Sepang event.
The statement said: "Having received a written report from Red Bull Racing and the verbal report from the Technical Delegate who has conducted a visual check of the front suspension of the Red Bull car, the Stewards at this stage intend to take no action under Art 2.3 of the 2008 Formula One Technical Regulations. This matter will however, be kept under review during the event."
