Toro Rosso duo on top at Barcelona

Scuderia Toro Rosso duo Sebastian Vettel and Sebastien Bourdais topped the times on the second day of testing at Barcelona in Spain today, as the pair conducted full qualifying simulations

Although Toro Rosso are not expected to have their definitive 2008 car until the start of the European season, the team clearly wanted to see how fast the single lap pace of their updated 2007 machine was as both their drivers outpaced Lewis Hamilton's McLaren.

Toro Rosso spent much of the day simulating the demands of a race weekend, and the drivers' quickest times came during their qualifying practice.

The day was not completely trouble free for the duo, however, with Bourdais stopping on track at 3:30 pm and Vettel 45 minutes later - bringing out the red flags both times.

Hamilton, who had been quickest overall on the first day of the test, ended the day four tenths behind Vettel's best, and had a similar margin of advantage over his teammate Heikki Kovalainen.

Robert Kubica continued to show BMW Sauber's progress with the fifth quickest time, although he suffered a mechanical problem at 10:00 am that left his car stranded on the track.

Renault duo Fernando Alonso and Nelson Piquet were sixth and seventh fastest, to end the day ahead of Mark Webber, Nick Heidfeld and David Coulthard.

Williams duo Nico Rosberg and Kazuki Nakajima were able to resume their testing after new parts arrived for the FW30 that helped overcome the wing mounting issue that had caused Nakajima to go off on Friday.

The day brought further frustration for Honda Racing, with Jenson Button still failing to show any significant improvement in the pace from the RA108 - and also losing time in the garage early on with suspected steering problems. He also brought out a red flag at 10:15 am when he stopped on track.
