Massa indifferent about McLaren situation

Alonso told Spanish radio last week that he did not feel 'totally comfortable' at McLaren because he felt that the team were supporting Hamilton more than himself. He reiterated those comments at Indianapolis on Thursday.

But even though any friction between Alonso and Hamilton could benefit Ferrari in their hopes of a world championship, Massa says that his team must keep focused on their own efforts.

"I have nothing to comment about that," the Brazilian said when asked about Alonso's comments. "It is not my team. We don't know what is happening in the next door.

"We work for our team and it is not important for us what they say, what they think. It is important for us to win races and get a competitive car and that is what we more care about."

Massa believes the most important issue for Ferrari is simply in delivering a car quick enough to fight for the win, not hoping that McLaren's challenge is dented by their situation.

"If they made a mistake because of that, for sure (it helps). But we cannot think about that, we must just think about being in front. That is our job to do.

"If we have a good car and we are in front then that can help. That is really the most important thing."

Massa believes that this weekend's United States Grand Prix will provide a better indication of Ferrari's true form against McLaren than was witnessed in Monaco or Montreal.

"In these last two races it looks like we went a little bit backwards and McLaren and the others came closer," he said. "I prefer to think that something happened in the last two races that we don't understand, and that is why our car was not competitive.

"I really don't think in two races everyone improves and we could not improve anything. For me it is something related to these two races. I prefer to think like that and have a race like this where we are competitive and try to be in front of them.

"If we are, then for sure it is something related to the last two races. And if we are not then it is related to the fact that the others improved a lot and we could not. But I prefer to think about the first thing."
