Audetto hails F1 safety measures

Super Aguri managing director Daniel Audetto has paid tribute to the work of FIA president Max Mosley and technical delegate Charlie Whiting following Robert Kubica's miracle escape in the Canadian GP

Kubica got away with just minor injuries following an horrific crash after his car ran off the track, smashed into a concrete retaining wall and then barrel rolled down the track.

And in the wake of the events, Audetto thinks that Mosley and Whiting's efforts to improve car safety must be applauded - even though sometimes teams get upset at the efforts they have to make to ensure their cars are safe.

"I am happy to see that Robert was okay, and when I saw the accident I really feared the worst," Audetto told autosport.com. "If that was 10 years ago then the guy was really gone.

"But the safety measures now are fantastic - and what saved him this time was the HANS device. When you see the accident, it is incredible.

"He was lucky but we also have to thanks Max Mosley, Charlie Whiting and the FIA, because they have made such stringent rules. Sometimes we complain, you know, when you have to pass the crash tests.

"We failed a couple of times this year and we kept saying that the cars were already too safe. But when you see an accident like this, then you can just say thanks to Max and Charlie for making it so difficult."
