Q & A with Anthony Hamilton

Q. How does it feel?

Anthony Hamilton, Lewis' father: I probably feel like everyone else feels. I am just drained. It is fantastic. I can't really explain how I feel other than the fact that if you guys feel good, then I feel 1000 times better than that. But I am shattered if I am honest with you.

It has been a long day and I am sure I will come a cropper this evening some time when we sit down and actually take it all in. But you have to give fair play to the whole team. We are very happy.

Q. There were lots of incidents out there today. It was amazing how controlled he was...

AH: That was his go-karting experience. You get all that stuff in karting. It is just a question of keeping your head straight and trying to make a good break.

Q. Lewis dedicated his race to you. What do you think about that?

AH: Did he? Oh, I didn't know that. It was a good job I didn't. It's great but hopefully he won't have to say any more about me because I have done it now. We need to move on now.

Q. And is there much more to come?

AH: Yes, I hope so.

Q. Is there a sense of relief after so many close calls in recent races?

AH: A sense of relief isn't the right phrase. A sense of relief will come when we retire I think. It is always going to be exciting, it is always going to be dangerous. I will always have heart palpitations when he is out there driving, and I have got another ten or 15 years of this.

Q. And there must have been a lot of heart palpitations after each safety car?

AH: Yeah, that is why I am feeling so drained. It is great.

Q. Did you watch the race in the pits?

AH: No, I was in the back of the paddock area.

Q. Have you some downtime now before Indianapolis?

AH: No, we head straight off to the next race.

Q. What were the emotions like in the last few laps?

AH: It was going really slowly for me. He was probably enjoying it. When you are sitting in the back of a tent you never quite know what is going to happen next.

But there is one thing out of all of this. It is great we have got our first win, but best regards and wishes go out to Robert Kubica. He is a great guy and a fantastic driver. I hope it all works out well for him.

Q. People always say that drivers who win their first Grand Prix grow in confidence and get better. What will Lewis be like?

AH: I don't know what is next, do you? I don't know what is next. I am speechless really. I am struggling to hold a conversation with you.

Lewis is loving it. A lot of young guys racing karts dream of being in F1, and he is really, really enjoying it. I just think it is nice to remain normal and keep your feet on the ground.
