Tilke says Mexico, Russia projects on ice

Mexico, India and Russia look unlikely to host a Formula One race in the near future, according to F1 track designer Herman Tilke

All three countries have been linked with hosting a Grand Prix, but neither plan has so far become a reality.

Mexico announced a five-year deal with Bernie Ecclestone at the start of 2005, and organisers expected the race to be included on the calendar in 2006.

The track project, however, hit problems, despite Tilke's company finding the right site to start building the circuit.

"That is on ice. It is completely open what will happen there," Tilke said of the Mexico track in an interview with autosport.com.

"From typographical point of view, there was not problem. We have found a fitting area and the project itself had been announced already.

"But then, for reasons that I find very hard to see through, the project was neutralised. I guess there were some political problems."

The German says Russia, also hoping to host a Grand Prix, has no plans for a Formula One track.

"We are building two smaller tracks in the vicinity of Moscow, but neither is intended to host Formula One events," he said.

India has been recently tipped for a Grand Prix for 2009, but Tilke says there is nothing concrete yet.

He added: "India always comes up when we speak about new venues, but while it is always a subject of discussion, for now, it is not more than a subject of discussion."
