Schumacher surprised by Ferrari dominance

The seven-time world champion comfortably led home teammate Felipe Massa to cut the gap to Fernando Alonso in the title chase to 11 points.

Speaking straight after the race, Schumacher labelled his team's performance as 'superb'.

"Our car just functioned really great," he said. "We had a good work out before coming here, in the last test before the summer break. We worked hard with Bridgestone in order to sort out our position and get the details.

"It is a package that is the reason we can perform as we do perform, but it is a bit of a surprise being that much in front. We will take it though.

"It is the right moment in time when we need to have such a performance in order to climb down the gap in the championship and keep the pressure on. It was a superb weekend for all of us."

Schumacher said his race to victory had been straightforward, without any moments of concern.

"There was nothing bad because we had such a margin we could really drive safe. Off line it was very dirty, and in the last corner a car went off.

"Other cars had trouble and driving on the limit it was probably difficult in a way, but we didn't have a moment."

Massa added: "We saw we had a strong pace and that was our target - to put both Ferraris in front.

"It was a great job from the team, from everybody and the suppliers. I think Michael and I just tried to pull away the gap straight away and then looked to finish first and second."
