Salo to replace injured Zonta

Finn Mika Salo has been lined up to race for British American Racing if Ricardo Zonta is not fit. The 31-year-old, who split with Arrows at the start of the year, is testing for the team this week. He has been pencilled in for the San Marino and Monaco Grands Prix if Zonta is not ready to race in time.

'It feels good,' said Salo. 'I'm glad to be able to have the chance to drive a good car. I think its quick, but the team has been unlucky and had some problems. I think I can help them a lot with the car. I've always had good races at Imola and I'm hoping I can race at Monaco as well.'

Salo, who was fourth in the Monaco GP last year, said that he was not looking at the opportunity as a chance to get one up on BAR number one Jacques Villeneuve, who is a close friend.

'It's not a competition between Jacques and me. It's just good fun to have the chance to race again.'

Salo has no worries about getting used to the car. 'It should take about two laps,' he said. 'It will be a good experience. It should have more power than any other car I have driven.'

Salo said he expects to test all three days in Jerez this week if he is to race. If Zonta is likely to be fit, the Finn will drive for a day and a half before handing over to BAR tester Patrick Lemarie.
