Toyota Boss Confirms Bridgestone Switch

Toyota boss Tsutomu Tomita has confirmed that his team will be switching to Bridgestone next year - even though there has not yet been an official announcement

The Japanese car manufacturer have been widely tipped to switch to Bridgestone for 2006, and although Michelin have already announced that they will not be supplying Toyota next season the team have yet to make the deal official.

However, speaking about the tyre situation at the Japanese Grand Prix, Tomita confirmed that Toyota will be switching tyre suppliers for next season.

"We basically give our thanks and appreciation to the Michelin team over the three years because their tyre is getting better and better performance," he said. "But it is a good time to re-consider about the contracts and I am very sure the Bridgestone tyre will be very nice for us."

Toyota's switch to Bridgestone next season means they will join other front-running teams Ferrari and Williams on the rubber - with Honda's second team also set to join them if the outfit gets off the ground.
