Schumacher: No Regrets on F2005
World Champion Michael Schumacher said he has no regrets about Ferrari bringing forward the debut of the F2005 car, despite retiring from the Bahrain Grand Prix with his first mechanical failure in 98 races
Ferrari took a gamble on rushing their new F2005 car into service in Bahrain, two races ahead of schedule, after their modified old car proved powerless to match Renault's pacesetting Fernando Alonso in Malaysia.
But despite the gamble not paying off for Schumacher, who retired on the 12th lap of the race from a comfortable second position, the German remained calm and said he had no regrets on introducing the F2005 earlier than planned.
"It was a calculated decision, and I think it was the best decision we could have taken," Schumacher said. "I picked up debris on the circuit while following Fernando Alonso, and this may have caused the radiator to break down.
"We now have extra three weeks [before the next Grand Prix], so we're extra confident. Don't worry."
