Jordan Can Win, Says Carlin

Jordan-Midland sporting director Trevor Carlin believes that the team has everything required to be a winning team in Formula One, having done so in the past

"That's the difference from so many teams, even bigger ones," Carlin told Autosport magazine. "These guys know how to win, and that gives them a certain level of confidence in themselves and in each other."

Despite this, he doesn't feel that there are wins in store this year, as the team is using 2005 as a learning year while they aim towards Midland's  'debut' next year, when the team will run a Dallara chassis.

"The takeover happened so fast and at such a late stage in the year that very little development was possible for this year," Carlin noted. "We will concentrate now on supplying Dallara with as much information as possible to put us in a better position for next year."

The team has ambitious plans to have the 2006 car up and running by September to allow themselves a long period of testing. There have rumours linking Midland to a Ferrari engine deal for next year, but given the lead times required in development this would require a deal within the next few weeks.

"The obvious thing to do would be to continue with Toyota," Carlin observed. "The engine is very good, and I've always believed in continuing relationships wherever possible in motorsport. That way, even if you have a bad year, you have it together and you appreciate the good times more."
