Brawn optimistic over tyres
Ferrari's technical director Ross Brawn has sent out an ominous warning to its Michelin-shod rivals, saying that Bridgestone has come up with an excellent tyre for Sunday's Hungarian Grand Prix
Speaking after the final free practice session on Saturday morning, Brawn thinks that last year's Hungarian race - when Michael Schumacher finished a lap behind winner Fernando Alonso - will be a distant memory come Sunday afternoon.
"The tyre has worked very well so far this weekend," said Brawn. "It should be particularly good in the race because of its consistency. I am quite encouraged that we won't have a repeat of last year. It looks like we'll be competitive.
"The tyre gets quicker and quicker as we do more laps, which is very good as far as the race is concerned."
On the subject of its main opposition this weekend, Brawn believes BAR and Renault are looking the most formidable opponents.
"BAR and Renault look pretty strong today," he said. "McLaren looked good yesterday, but I'm not sure why they weren't quick today. Renault did some very good runs in race conditions this morning, so we're expecting some close competition."
