Brawn: No Ferrari pole today
Ferrari technical director Ross Brawn has said that Ferrari will not even try to get pole position in qualifying for the German Grand Prix at Hockenheim, the Englishman admitting that the Michelin-shod teams have such a marked advantage over a single flying lap
Speaking after the second free practice session on Saturday morning, Brawn said that race strategy would be Ferrari's priority as its attempts to wrap up the constructors' championship this weekend.
"As you could see from this morning they [the Michelin teams] have got a very good first lap," said Brawn. "Our tyre is more consistent, so we will be competitive in the race. We need a reasonable performance in qualifying, and then we can concentrate on tomorrow."
When asked specifically if there was no chance of a Ferrari pole position this afternoon, Brawn replied: "Probably. There is not generally a chance of pole. So we will go the other way and concentrate on race strategy."
Brawn denied that the fact Ferrari can seal the constructors' title this weekend is a distraction: "We try not to think about that. If it comes it would be fantastic. We're just going to concentrate on the race, which is one that means a lot to Michael especially."
