Pizzonia put on standby
Williams have told Antonio Pizzonia to be 'ready' for next weekend's German Grand Prix after reserve driver Marc Gene has failed to impress during his two appearances at Magny-Cours and Silverstone
Pizzonia has been testing the FW26 alongside Gene at Jerez this week and today (Friday) he is set to carry out a race simulation and pitstop practice.
"All I know is that the team has told me to be ready," the Brazilian told Gazzetta dello Sport.
Pizzonia was certainly out to impress in Thursday's test session topping the times and lapping over a second quicker than Gene.
Williams is not expected to make a decision until the Jerez test has been completed.
Pizzonia tested for Williams in 2002 before taking a race seat at Jaguar last season, but the Brazilian was dumped five races from the end of the season as he failed to translate his pace into race results.
Williams kept the faith though and re-employed him as its test driver this year.
Whether his over-exuberance has been tamed in that time remains to be seen.
