Canadian woe for Williams
Williams-BMW suffered a disastrous first day in Montreal for the Canadian Grand Prix - an event where they have been historically one of the pacesetters
Ralf Schumacher, who was on pole last year and finished runner-up, ended the day 14th fastest with team-mate Juan Pablo Montoya, who spun out of the lead in 2003, was 20th quickest. Schumacher suffered brake problems, Montoya a fuel leak.
"I must admit I wasn't expecting such a Friday at all," said Schumacher. "Both of my practice sessions were hampered by several problems, not only was I not happy with the brakes, but also the tyre choice and finding the right set-up have been very difficult. There's still quite a lot of work ahead of us."
Montoya said: "I only managed to complete six laps in the second session, which meant I couldn't work a lot on my car. Even if I had very little running in the afternoon, I can say that the balance had improved from the morning session."
