Silv 2: Rain ruins test
Ralf Schumacher set the fastest time on the second day of the Silverstone Formula 1 test for BMW WilliamsF1, but a wet track meant no quick times were set on the British Grand Prix circuit
The wet tyres Michelin has brought to the test were for light rain, and the heavy downpours that hit the circuit rendered the track undriveable. On one lap Schumacher spun five times, David Coulthard three.
Only Schumacher and Williams tester Marc Gene completed any significant mileage and the pair wound up around 0.7s apart.
Jarno Trulli set the third best time, almost four seconds adrift but the Italian only completed a handful of laps.
The weather was most frustrating for Coulthard and the McLaren-Mercedes team, who had planned to run a new revised engine today in the wake of Kimi Raikkonen's spate of engine failures in recent GPs. The bad news for them is that the weather is expected to remain bad tomorrow...
