Rain Disrupts Silverstone Test - Day Two

Williams driver Ralf Schumacher topped the timesheets on the second day of testing at the Silverstone circuit in England.

Williams driver Ralf Schumacher topped the timesheets on the second day of testing at the Silverstone circuit in England.

The weather, however, hindered the teams' progress, as a heavy rain fell on the British track during most of the session, with only a few men completing significant mileage.

The Williams drivers were the only ones who carried out proper testing, with Schumacher outpacing Spanish tester Marc Gene. Both men drove the BMW-powered FW26 for over 50 laps of the British circuit.

The Renault team were in action with both Jarno Trulli and Franck Montagny, but the Italian completed only seven laps and the Frenchman spent the day practicing starts and did not set a time.

"The rain finally arrived in Silverstone today, and we have completed very little mileage," said Renault's chief test engineer Christian Silk. "After an evaluation run, we concluded that we would learn little from running today and did not want to endanger parts unnecessarily. We hope that conditions will improve tomorrow."

The three McLaren drivers in action completed just 21 laps between them, Finn Kimi Raikkonen being the quickest of the trio.

Testing resumes tomorrow.
