Andersson wants turnaround
Toyota's former team principal and now advisor Ove Andersson has admitted that the team's poor start to the year has been a disappointment. But the Swede believes that the team's technical director Mike Gascoyne, recruited from Renault last year, will turn the team's fortunes around
Toyota struggled in Australia and ended the race two laps down. Since then Christiano da Matta and Olivier Panis have managed to qualify the TF104 in the top ten, but a points finish has remained out of grasp.
"It's clear. We have to be honest, and of course it's very disappointing," Andersson told autosport.com. "But I think that's life. You have to sleep in the bed you make!"
"I think it's very obvious that the speed isn't there, and that's what we have to work on. That's basically why we have Mike [Gascoyne] to help us out of it. I think in terms of management in the technical area, it's changing very positively. And I think the guys really appreciate that there is someone who says, 'Boys, this is how we do it.'"
"You have to realise that this is nothing you do overnight. I think realistically his input will probably be seen clearly - although hopefully before - on next year's car. But we can't expect too much before that."
