Kimi calls for extra horses
Kimi Raikkonen has called on Mercedes-Benz to up its game this year if McLaren is to stand a chance of winning the world championship. The Finn claims that the team is in desperate need of more power.
According to a story in this week's AUTOSPORT Magazine, Raikkonen said: "I guess we need more horsepower but it is not so easy to find. I am sure we are not at a level where BMW or some others are at the moment, but first we have to try to get the engine to be reliable."
But after problems with reliability in recent tests at Barcelona, McLaren had a better time in subsequent running at Jerez and Valencia. Raikkonen is more optimistic following those outings.
"I think Jerez was quite good," said the Finn. "We did more than 200 laps in two days, didn't have any problems and we were quite quick.
Raikkonen went on to beat the lap record at Valencia this week, and says the trouble at Barcelona can hopefully be put behind the team.
"We know the reasons we didn't go well there so hopefully we can improve. There is still work to do on the car but at least it seems to be more reliable now, so hopefully we can improve on speed."
