DC vows to up his game
British Formula 1 World Championship hope David Coulthard has vowed to take a more aggressive approach in his final year with McLaren-Mercedes, according to this week's AUTOSPORT magazine
Coulthard will be replaced in 2005 by Williams-BMW ace Juan Pablo Montoya, but says he is going to make the best of his final year with the McLaren squad.
"I plan to be more proactive rather than just going through the testing programme and turning up at the grand prix, hoping it will be okay," he said. "As a grand prix driver you're on your own in the car. So I will be using those areas within McLaren that can help develop my technique. It is just a case of doing my homework and learning from the mistakes of previous races."
The 32-year-old Scot broke the unofficial winter testing lap record at Valencia last week, lapping in 1m09.697s. Coulthard also reveals in this week's AUTOSPORT how he plans to overcome his one-lap qualifying problems in 2004, and check out the magazine too for exclusive pictures of the MP4-19 featuring its new rear wing for the first time.
