Wilson frustrated by ruling

Wilson, who scored a point for Jaguar in last year's US GP after a mid-season switch from Minardi, has failed to get a race seat for 2004. But his fallback plan of a testing role has been scuppered by the FIA's regulation that bars Friday test drivers who have raced in six or more grands prix over the past two seasons, although he is hoping this will be changed in the next few weeks.

"I believe that there will be a decision about this soon," said Wilson, who was speaking at the AUTOSPORT International Show. "Otherwise it's a classic case of being overqualified for a job. But what can I say? It's frustrating but I can't do anything about it."

Wilson says he is committed to staying in F1, and will only consider a switch to America if the ruling is not overturned.

"If I am offered a fulltime F1 testing contract, then that is what I'll do," he said. "I'm focused on staying in F1 because I want to finish what I've started. We've been pushing hard to find an opportunity, but with this ruling it could go one way or the other at the moment."
