Barcelona 3: Still Badoer

Badoer lapped his Ferrari F2003-GA in 1m17.300s, with Button less than two-tenths in arrears in the 2004 'concept car'.

Giancarlo Fisichella ended his first test with Sauber Petronas with the third fastest time, the Italian lapping in 1m17.747s.

Sauber's chief race engineer Jacky Eeckelaert said: "In the morning the track was wet which enabled us to run a wet tyre programme for Bridgestone. We continued tyre testing in the afternoon and also used the new power steering which will be fitted to the 2004 car. Overall, the three days were very productive and we were able to complete our planned programme. Giancarlo proved to be a real professional and adapted very quickly to his new environment."

Felipe Massa and Luciano Burti were closely matched for Ferrari in fourth and fifth, but Burti blotted his copybook by spinning on the exit of the fast final corner, smacking the pitwall and damaging the car.

Takuma Sato completed the runners in sixth position, seventh-tenths off the fastest time.
