Barcelona 1: Ferrari fastest

Luca Badoer set the pace, a few tenths clear of fellow Ferrari tester Felipe Massa. Luciano Burti's chances of making it an all-Ferrari F2003-GA top three were spoiled when he suffered a mechanical failure and could only manage 36 laps, with his best only good enough for fifth.

Giancarlo Fisichella didn't take long to ease his way into Sauber with the third fastest time in the C22, just seven tenths off the fastest time of the day.

"For the first time with my new team I'm quite happy with the result," said Fisichella. "I covered almost 100 laps, which is a lot for Barcelona. It's a very nice and familiar atmosphere at Sauber. Everyone works in a very professional and friendly manner."



Takuma Sato's 2003-spec BAR was fourth fastest, while Jenson Button struggled to set a flying lap so far in the experimental BAR concept car that features the 2004 engine, gearbox and aero package.
