Jaguar to launch R5 in January
The Jaguar Formula 1 team will launch its 2004 challenger on January 18 in Spain. The R5 will be unveiled at the Catalunya circuit near Barcelona.
After launching their machine on the internet this year, the team has decided to return to a more conventional real-life presentation. Ideally, the team would hope to have signed its second driver by that date.
Mark Webber is confirmed for next year and will almost certainly carry most of the team's hopes in 2004. The identity of his team-mate is still not known, but if the R5 is as good as its predecessor it will be one of the most desirable seats still available in F1.
Jaguar hopeful Jos Verstappen has been gathering what could prove to be crucial sponsorship back in Holland, but Austrian Alex Wurz remains the favourite to land the drive.
The team will test American Townsend Bell and Christian Klien next week, and says it can't rule out employing either of the rookie drivers. It insists that test should not be seen as a "shoot-out."
