Jordan: We should have done better

Giancarlo Fisichella was happy to score his first points since his improbable victory in the Brazilian Grand Prix, but Jordan technical director Gary Anderson has admitted that the Italian should have done better, after he was slowed by a costly late refuelling problem

Fisichella took advantage of the mixed weather conditions and the superior Bridgestone intermediates to climb into the points positions. He was running sixth in the closing stages of the race, but was lapping somewhat off the pace and was hunted down and passed easily by Juan Pablo Montoya. The reason for the Jordan's lack of speed was a refuelling problem on Fisichella's final pit stop.

"We believed fuel didn't go in on the second stop but it had, so we refuelled twice and he did his final stint full of fuel which obviously slowed him down significantly as well as making the pit stop far too long," said Anderson. "There was another point or two in it for us but we missed out and we have to look at why that happened because these opportunities don't come along very often and when they do you have to make the most of them."

The two points Fisichella scored for seventh will at least ensure the Italian doesn't finish the season in the history books for scoring no points other than for his Brazilian win. "A good result," he said. "We didn't expect to score points so it's great considering our pace and our grid position. We did very well, despite some problems in both pit stops. Without those there was definitely the possibility to finish sixth."
