No party for Honda in landmark event
Honda had only a tenth place to celebrate in Budapest, after its landmark 250th Grand Prix. It was Jenson Button who obliged with a fighting drive in the BAR, whilst Jacques Villeneuve (almost needless to say) suffered another failure after a fine start
Villeneuve made up six places on the first lap and was looking forward to a promising two-stop afternoon. A hydraulic leak intervened shortly before his first scheduled stop, and his day was done.
"We knew we would be much better on race set-up - and we were," said the Canadian. "But as usual, when things look good something happens to make it a bad weekend. It's just a continuation of a bad season. But who knows, maybe we can get a good result by the end of the year."
Button suffered a bad start and then encountered a differential problem halfway through the race, which hampered his progress. Nonetheless, he delivered a very solid drive and for the majority of the race he was the fastest Bridgestone runner.
BAR is still involved in a tight battle for fifth place in the constructors' championship. It is level with Jaguar on 15 points, and one point ahead of Toyota.
