Baumgartner 'will boost' Jordan
Zsolt Baumgartner believes he can make a major difference to Jordan's fortunes as the Hungarian tests the car on Friday morning in front of his home crowd in Budapest. The advantage of running a third car could prove vital in a race where tyre choice is expected to be key
The Hungarian took part in the early-morning test with the team in the last Grand Prix in Germany, and would like to again make a good impression.
"After the job I did in Hockenheim I want to help the team collect information and work out their strategy here," said Baumgartner. "I was happy I didn't crash the car or make mistakes in Germany. I was able to carry out all the tasks the engineers set me."
"There is a lot of interest in Hungary and I am of course aiming to become Hungary's first Formula One driver."
Team technical chief Gary Anderson has added support: "Having Zsolt driving the third car will really help when it comes to making tyre choices," he said. "He did a very competent job in Hockenheim."
Formula 3000 competitor Baumgartner had a three-lap demonstration run in a Jordan at the Hungarian race last year, but this Friday's test should be a much more valuable experience.
"I really enjoyed driving last year and am looking forward to Friday," said Baumgartner. "The extra two hours of track time will come in useful when I get in my regular F3000 car for the rest of the weekend."
The extended practice will again be handy for race team driver Ralph Firman as the Hungaroring is another track that he has not seen before.
