Ralf: Race is one thing, title another

Ralf Schumacher is confident that the BMW Williams team will be strong in Magny-Cours this weekend, but is not yet counting himself in the championship fight

The Williams team has shown a marked improvement on form in recent races, winning two of the last three GP's. But Ralf has warned about making rash predictions of title success.

"From where we started the season it's great to be in the challenging position that we find ourselves now, but you know how quickly things can go wrong. Before making any predictions I'd rather be careful and see what we do over the next few races," he said.

"Magny Cours has a tricky surface, it has always been good to us, we've always been reasonably quick here, and I'm looking forward to this weekend. Michelin has been better for the last three or four races. I don't see any reason at all why it should be different here, so that's pretty encouraging. Our car has never been bad in the last few races on any of the circuits, so it should be a good weekend."

Schumacher Jr is currently 15 points behind his brother in the championship but with just two points separating the value of a win from second place this year, closing the margin could prove difficult.

"As far as catching someone is concerned, the points system can be a disadvantage," Ralf agreed, "but if someone has a problem, all that kind of disappears quick. Lets wait and see. But, I'm not really thinking about that yet because 15 points is so far away. Just lets wait and maybe try to win this one and then see where we are."
