Schumacher: when the going gets tough…

Michael Schumacher says he is not at all fazed by a tough start to the season in his quest for a record sixth world title. The five times champion has come in for some tough criticism after his incident with Jarno Trulli in Malaysia, but has dismissed speculation about the growing pressure he is under in Brazil

"I have the reputation of being great under pressure and the reputation of making mistakes under pressure. People can take whichever one they like. But when the going gets tough, the tough get going. That's my sort of thinking.

"I am not worried about what has happened. I know why it has happened and as long as we can analyse and understand it, then we can still look ahead knowing things are good. The first two races were not the best for us, but we still got eight points out of them and I know our time will come again."

Schumacher indicated that any talk of 'crisis' at Ferrari was way wide of the mark. "There have been no special meetings," he said. "We analyse every race as we prepare for the next one. It was very clear to us what happened and there is no need for us to change our strategy or approach."

Schumacher is predicting a stronger showing from Williams at Interlagos. "At the moment I'd have to say that McLaren are probably our toughest rivals but I saw a big step forward from Williams in last week's test in Barcelona," he said. "I think in this race we will see Williams have a better opportunity and if that's the case then they will come into championship contention and we will have a three team fight rather than a two team fight for the championship."
