Monza day 4: Barrichello heads times

The teams agreed to pack up at lunchtime to allow officials to begin preparations at the circuit for the race weekend. Pedro de la Rosa was second fastest over the course of the morning, consolidating the Jaguar driver's benchmark time for the week set yesterday (Thursday).

The Toyotas of Mika Salo and Allan McNish were next up, ahead of the other Jaguar driven by Eddie Irvine.

There were four red flag intermissions during the morning. The first one was for de la Rosa, who stopped out on the track and had ot be towed back. Then Felipe Massa spun his Sauber, surviving the moment without damage to his car.

Juan Pablo Montoya was the next one to go off, losing his Williams at the second Lesmo corner. He took off the nose of the car against a barrier.

The final red flag was shown when Jarno Trulli's Renault engine blew towards the end of the session. It was the team's second engine failure of the day and technical chief Mike Gascoyne commented: "An extremely disappointing final day. Nevertheless we have collected some useful data for the upcoming race."
