Barrichello: this is fantastic

Rubens Barrichello scored his second career win at the European Grand Prix and moved into the fight for second in the championship in the process

The Brazilian led from lap one and fended off the challenge of team-mate Michael Schumacher to become the fourth different driver to spray the victory champagne this season and make up for the disappointment of Austria, where team orders robbed him of another triumph.

"This is a fantastic result and I must thank the team for giving me a great car and great support, especially when I was struggling with tyre choice early in the weekend," he said.

"Is this payback for Austria? That was in the past. That time the strategy favoured Michael, this time it went in my favour. It shows what a strong and united group we are. Now I want to enjoy today as my son and wife are both here and it has been a fantastic day. I am now looking forward to Silverstone, which is like a home track for me."

Barrichello victory puts him level with David Coulthard in the drivers' championship on 26 points, four behind Ralf Schumacher who lies second.
