Valencia day one: Montoya fastest
Juan Pablo Montoya topped the timesheets today (Monday) as Williams and Renault went head-to-head at Valencia in a simulated wet test
The Colombian, driving this year's FW24, set a best lap of 1m29.640s. In total he covered 38 laps, the most of any of the five drivers present.
Ralf Schumacher was second fastest, although he was around half a second behind his team-mate. Fernando Alonso had another run-out for Renault, and set the third best time in the re-liveried Benetton B201.
Jarno Trulli drove Renault's new R202, although the Italian was feeling unwell and managed just 12 laps. He'll be hoping to conduct a more extensive programme tomorrow, when Minardi, Jordan and Sauber are expected to join proceedings.
Rubens Barrichello took up the driving duties for Ferrari today, covering 74 laps of the Mugello circuit in Italy. He worked on tyre evaluation and set up, setting a best time of 1m23.257s. He'll be joined at the track tomorrow by Luca Badoer as the team steps up its preparations ahead of the launch of the new car.
