Minardi sets targets for 2002
Minardi boss Paul Stoddart believes his team has a good shot of becoming a top 10 constructor in Formula 1 this year
Speaking at the AUTOSPORT International show, the Australian said he has clear targets for his second season in charge of the team.
"I have two goals," Stoddart said. "We want to finish in the top 10 in the constructors' championship and we have got an eye on a couple of teams we reckon we can beat. We will have a big uplift in horsepower this year with the Asiatech engine and we already have a good chassis.
"I also want to see Alex [Yoong] given a proper chance in F1. He was thrown in at the deep end last year and now I want to see him prove what he is really capable of."
The well-funded Malaysian, who joined the team for the final three races of 2001, is considered little more than a pay-driver by most people in F1. But Yoong believes he can prove those who doubt his ability wrong.
"F1 drivers always have something to prove," he said. "You always have your critics, but I agree with Paul. The top 10 is possible."
