Jordan not rushing new chassis
Jordan-Honda has announced that it will not unveil its new EJ12 until mid-to-late January next year, shirking the trend of a number of teams to take full advantage of the lifting of the current test ban on January 1
Toyota and British American Racing have already announced launch dates in December, while Jaguar will show off its R3 on January 4, in time for it to run on the first available day of 2002 testing - expected to be January 8.
"We are working flat out on to start testing on the 8th and hopefully the car will work," said Jaguar Racing principal Niki Lauda. "The more testing we get in the easier it will be to finish in Melbourne."
Jordan, who finished fifth in the constructors' championship this year, will show off new drivers Giancarlo Fisichella and Takuma Sato along with its new chassis later in January.
Formula 1 big guns Ferrari and McLaren have traditionally been the last to unveil their new chassis, with both renowned for using hybrid test cars featuring various new components on old chassis. Neither has set a date for revealing their new cars.
