Montoya sees stunning win slip from his grasp
Juan Pablo Montoya says he would have won the Brazilian Grand Prix had he not been punted from behind by Jos Verstappen's Arrows
The Colombian would have become the fastest man in 40 years to take a victory if he had won in only his third race for BMW-Williams.
He made a spectacular passing manoeuvre on Michael Schumacher to take the lead on the start of the third lap when he muscled inside the Ferrari into the Senna S chicane following a Safety Car intervention.
And he was well in command of the race when he lapped the Dutchman only to be hit from behind as he braked for the corner.
"It was quite strange because I braked in the place where I have been
braking all weekend, so I don't know what happened," said Montoya "I braked, and then he just hit me from behind. When I passed Michael, I thought he will probably try and take me straight away, but he didn't.
"I then just put my foot down to take the car as fast as I could," he added. "It was looking good and I was feeling happy. If that had carried on there was a chance I could have won."
