Lewis Hamilton says there's no need for talks with Nico Rosberg

Lewis Hamilton believes the only reason why the Mercedes Formula 1 team would need to discuss the United States Grand Prix first-lap clash would be to appease team-mate Nico Rosberg

The German said Hamilton "drove into me, and that's definitely one step too far" after they banged wheels at the first turn of last weekend's Austin F1 race.

While Rosberg and Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff intimated that 'clear the air' talks would take place, Hamilton was sceptical about whether they were necessary.

At Mexico City on Thursday he reiterated that stance and said there had been no discussions so far.

"We haven't spoken, nor do I think we really need to," said Hamilton.

GARY ANDERSON: Rosberg was to blame for Turn 1 clash

"I'm very easy going so I never really have any problems.

"Toto feels he needs to perhaps sit with Nico to see where his head is at, we don't want tension in the team.

"Generally we come together, we keep it transparent. I did not have anything to say about it.

"Of course, I'm sure we will sit down and see what Nico is feeling and any emotions he has and try and dilute them and then move on."

While Hamilton sealed the 2015 drivers' championship with his eventual victory at Austin, Rosberg remains four points behind Sebastian Vettel in third place in the standings.

Asked if there had been any request from Mercedes for him to help Rosberg beat the Ferrari driver to the runner-up spot, Hamilton said he felt it was unlikely.

"The team have not asked me to support him in that role," he said.

"I'm here to win the race, the team have won the constructors' so from here on, it's not a huge benefit for the team for me to start helping, but we'll see what Toto wants me to do."

He added he would approach the remaining races in Mexico, Brazil and Abu Dhabi exactly as he had the rest of the season.

"I generally have a really balanced approach, balanced between risk and not too much risk, so I don't think I really need to change it as it's done me well this year with the 10 wins," Hamilton said.

"So I'll just keep it the same. There's not pressure, but I can enjoy the experience, so that's what I'm going to try to do."
