Lewis Hamilton: Red Bull shouldn't 'give up' on Formula 1

Lewis Hamilton says he sees no reason for Red Bull to "give up" on Formula 1 just because it is enduring a tough spell of results

Senior Red Bull figures have made repeated threats to quit - pulling both Red Bull Racing and Toro Rosso out of F1 - if they cannot source a more competitive engine after two difficult years with Renault power.

While Red Bull's future appears to depend on landing latest-spec engines from Ferrari for 2016, reigning world champion Hamilton believes its behaviour has been strange.

"It seems really odd for me, having witnessed Red Bull's success and then the moment they don't have success, it's like they have been upset about it," he said.

"I have not seen that with any other team.

"Growing up, watching Formula 1, when Ferrari lost the championship after having success, I don't remember - but maybe they did - hearing them complaining the next year.

"You have to keep pushing forward and there is no reason for them to give up."

Hamilton said it would be a shame to lose Red Bull's two teams from the grid, and he believes the company can still be successful again.

"It would be a shame for the fans," he said.

"They have a great team, great drivers, great pedigree, they have had incredible success, and they still have a pretty awesome car.

"They can still have success - they just have to work hard at it."

Ferrari drivers Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen both agreed it would be bad for F1 to lose Red Bull's teams.

"Of course it would be a shame," said Vettel, who won four consecutive world championships for Red Bull from 2010-13.

"I was there for a long time, I know the potential they have, so for Formula 1 it would be a shame to lose four cars for the future."

Raikkonen added: "It wouldn't be nice for F1 to lose any team.

"It's not nice to lose teams that are fighting hard at the back of the grid and especially teams like Red Bull and Toro Rosso.

"Hopefully it all gets sorted out. It would be nicer for all of us in F1."
