Caterham F1 duo relaxed about future amid Kovalainen talk

Caterham pairing Giedo van der Garde and Charles Pic are relaxed about their Formula 1 futures amid the possibility Heikki Kovalainen could race for the team in 2014

Neither driver is officially confirmed for the 2014 season and if Kovalainen does return, it would mean that Caterham would have to drop at least one of Pic or van der Garde.

"The management is speaking to some people, and speaking to this team, but they leave me out of it because I want to concentrate on my racing and do the best I can," van der Garde told AUTOSPORT.

"They have to sort something out. I'm very happy at this team, they have done a good job.

"Let's see what they want and how the development is going. They are pushing really hard for next year and the car seems to be on target.

"We will see what options come around and then we will decide, but I hope it [the decision] is earlier than it was this year."

Pic is in a strong position to stay on thanks to his links with Renault and the fact he joined at the start of this season in what was expected to be a multi-year deal.

But while the Frenchman wants to stay on, he is not taking anything for granted

His management is understood to be assessing potential alternatives as a fallback option should he not be able to stay at Caterham in 2015.

"In F1 you never know if there is something for sure in F1, it's that nothing is sure," Pic told AUTOSPORT

"It's the logical thing for the future that I stay here but it is Formula 1, so we will see."
