Summary

Status: Stopped

Ricciardo is asked to drive down the left-hand side of the track on the backstraight. It must be bumpy over there, as he reports that "I think I've broke my back," and Red Bull thanks him for the "good data".

Verstappen is told to drive on a different line on his inlap, the team is looking for "different ride comments".
Chequered flag - that's the end of FP2 at Austin. Hamilton, Verstappen, Vettel lead the way.
A reminder of the top 10 as we near the end of Friday's running: 1 Hamilton, 2 Verstappen, 3 Vettel, 4 Bottas, 5 Ricciardo, 6 Raikkonen, 7 Alonso, 8 Massa, 9 Perez, 10 Ocon.
Guess who?

Guess who?

Hamilton is on softs for the end of this session.

Alonso says he has "super oversteer". Sounds spectacular.

He's coming into the pits for a "minus 2" adjustment on his front wing.

We're not sure what's wrong with the mic on Perez's onboard camera, but it's creating a much-missed high-pitch scream effect from his engine as we ride with him on the TV screens.

"It feels a bit like jelly," Vettel adds. Hmm...

Vettel is reporting "something weird with the front axle" and he's back in the garage so his mechanics can have a look.
That McLaren tweet about Alonso's car picking up damage probably explains why Vandoorne was told to stay off some of the exit kerbs earlier.

We're starting to see the ultra-softs being done away with - Bottas has taken super-softs, while Kvyat and Wehrlein are on the softs, and more drivers down the order are joining the Mercedes driver on the red-marked tyres.

Hulkenberg finally puts in an ultra-soft lap, and he goes 12th, just 0.005s behind Sainz in the other Renault.

"Stoffel, try to avoid orange sausage kerbs on the [corner] exits," McLaren tells Vandoorne.

Verstappen is told that the early laps from the Mercedes drivers on high fuel with the ultra-softs are similar to his pace earlier in the session on high fuel with super-softs.
Hamilton reports a big engine 'de-rate' and he's offered a settings change to improve it.
Sainz moves up to 11th, with Renault late to the ultra-soft short-run party here. Hulkenberg is yet to head out on the pink-walled tyres.

"You can have a good read of the car on high fuel," Hartley is told as he heads back out.
