Lap 37: Vettel is almost pushing Hamilton over the old start/finish line but once again holds off the charging Vettel into Copse.
Lap 37: Schumacher makes a move to the inside of Heidfeld at Copse, but the Renault driver claims the racing line, leaving Schumacher to get out of the throttle.
Lap 35: Hamilton's spited defence of the Red Bull challenge is really helping Alonso's cause as the Spaniard streaks off to a 9.8 second lead.
Lap 35: Perez is running quicker than Rosberg in the early phase of this set of tyres. He cuts the gap to 1.3s.
Lap 35: Schumacher's next target is Heidfeld. A tasty battle is set between the pair for 11th.
Lap 35: Drivers have one set of soft rubber remaining and all will plan to stop as late as possible for the final time.
Lap 35: Schumacher slices to the inside of Alguersuari going into Stowe. He has just enough room and takes over 12th position.
Lap 34: Vettel continues his chase of Hamilton and will surely make it through when Hamilton gets towards the end of life of his rubber.
Lap 34: Rosberg is back in seventh following that round of stops. Perez did lose out, but the gap between them is only two seconds.
Lap 34: Schumacher posts his best first sector of the race so far. He is just 0.3s behind Alguersuari as they battle for 12th.
Lap 34: Webber has had a moment at Becketts, running wide onto the slippery grass but recovering ahead of Button on the road.
Lap 33: Hamilton is forced to defend from Vettel into Copse as Alonso streaks off to a comfortable 8.3 second lead.
Lap 33: Perez pits this time round, but Rosberg has been setting personal best sector times and is likely to extend the advantage over the Mexican.
Lap 33: Lots of marbles building up off-line with 20 laps remaining in a fascinating British Grand Prix.
Lap 33: Runaway points leader Vettel will know that Hamilton has little to lose in a marginal move as they race into the DRS zone again.
Lap 32: Barrichello and Glock have also been into the pits from 13th and 17th respectively.
Lap 32: Vettel continues to harry Hamilton but the McLaren man is putting up a strong defence so far.
Lap 32: Alguersuari and Schumacher pit together, giving the Toro Rosso and Mercedes mechanics a straight race.
Lap 32: Perez therefore moves up to seventh spot, with Alguersuari eighth, Sutil ninth and Schumacher 10th.
Lap 31: Hamilton's McLaren looks to be short of rear grip after the team was hit badly by the current off-throttle engine mapping squabble.
Lap 31: Rosberg and Heidfeld pit from seventh and ninth positions.
Lap 31: Ricciardo is still running in 20th and last position. He is 40 seconds behind team-mate Liuzzi and has just been in for his second stop.
Lap 31: Vettel is in the DRS zone on Hamilton now as Alonso clears off up front.
Lap 31: One-two-three-four all in sight on the Hangar straight as they leave Button and Massa well behind in an intense battle up front.
Lap 30: The battle in the midfield now revolves around Heidfeld, who is struggling for pace. He is ninth but has Alguersuari, Sutil and Schumacher all close behind him.
Lap 30: Alonso is pressing home his advantage now and is two seconds ahead of Hamilton, who now has Vettel in his mirrors.
Lap 30: When di Resta tagged Buemi, he broke the front wing. He has since been in for a third stop for a new nose.
Lap 30: Replays show problems fitting the left rear tyre was the costly delay for Vettel in that stop.
Lap 29: Schumacher is now up to 12th and is 1.5s behind Sutil. Petrov is 13th, with Barrichello 14th, Maldonado 15th and di Resta in 16th.
Lap 29: Hamilton is too far back this time but the race is on up front after Vettel pushes to recover from that bungled Red Bull service.
Lap 29: Buemi has pulled the Toro Rosso off at Chapel curve after destroying the bodywork at the rear, having tried to get back to the pits with that puncture too quickly.
Lap 29: Hamilton flashes over the line just under a second behind Alonso and is looking to take the DRS down the Wellington straight.
Lap 29: Vettel is clear back in third, chased by team-mate Webber.
Lap 29: Hamilton is up to speed on his current tyres and is quickly closing on new leader Alonso.
Lap 28: Rosberg is up to seventh now with Perez eighth, Heidfeld ninth, Alguersuari 10th and Sutil 11th after his pitstop.
Lap 28: Terrible stop from Red Bull there, which puts Alonso in the lead from Hamilton!
Lap 28: Buemi was tagged by Paul di Resta, who was trying a move on him. The tyre is flailing around and he is driving back to the pits way too quickly.
Lap 28: It's a slow stop for Vettel and Alonso beats him out of the pitlane!
Lap 28: Vettel dives into the pits for his second stop as Alonso also heads in for service at Ferrari.
