Lap 49: Hamilton is beginning to drop away in fourth and has Massa catching him at almost two seconds per lap the last time round.
Lap 49: Alonso has the gap up to 17.7s over Vettel, with Webber closing down on his team-mate in third.
Lap 48: Five laps remain in a fine British Grand Prix.
Lap 48: Massa is now warned of Hamilton's fuel shortage. The Brazilian has strong pace at the moment.
Lap 48: Timo Glock is 16th with Virgin team-mate 17th. Liuzzi is 18th and 9.4s back, with Ricciardo still out there in 19th.
Lap 47: That puts Webber up into third, with Hamilton left to conserve fuel to the flag in fourth.
Lap 47: Di Resta posts his quickest lap of the race so far in 15th, but it has all fallen away for the Scot after another promising early stint.
Lap 47: Webber is right in the DRS zone on Hamilton and eases around into third at Brooklands.
Lap 46: Sutil is 11th but Petrov is charging after him. The gap between them is less than one second, with Barrichello 13th and Maldonado 14th.
Lap 46: Meanwhile, Alonso has a massive 16.1 second lead and is clearly on course for Ferrari's first win of the season.
Lap 46: Heidfeld is 16 seconds down on Perez and still has Schumacher very close to him. Alguersuari is a further 1.3s back in 10th.
Lap 46: Webber is closing on Hamilton all the time but is told this could be a "bluff" to make the Red Bull man use up the best of his rubber.
Lap 45: Perez isn't able to make any impression on Rosberg in the dry portion of the race. He maintains pace at one second behind the Mercedes.
Lap 45: Hamilton locks up heavily into the Vale, with Webber now 1.5 seconds behind the McLaren and closing.
Lap 44: Teams do short-fuel the cars and McLaren may have been caught out by the rapid pace or the recent adjustments to the engine mapping.
Lap 44: Webber is 2.6 seconds behind Hamilton in the fight for the final podium place.
Lap 43: Sutil rejoined from his stop in 11th place and has Petrov one second behind him. Barrichello is 13th with Maldonado 14th and di Resta 15th.
Lap 43: Hamilton is now being told to save fuel by the McLaren team.
Lap 43: Massa resumes in a lonely fifth.
Lap 43: Massa does indeed pit for a late stop as a dejected Button trudges back to the McLaren garage on foot.
Lap 42: Sutil rejoins after a quick stop, releasing Heidfeld to eighth, Schumacher up to ninth and Alguersuari 10th.
Lap 42: Webber is looking to put himself past Massa, who is now due in the pits.
Lap 42: Button's demise promotes Rosberg to sixth, with Perez still tight up behind him in seventh. Sutil moves up to eighth but he pits.
Lap 42: Alonso leads by a massive 10.3 seconds from Vettel and Hamiltion. Massa is yet to stop in fourth, ahead of Webber.
Lap 41: It appears the right front wheel is not bolted on Button's car and he has been forced to retire.
Lap 41: Button also makes his final stop and... has stopped the McLaren emerging from the pits.
Lap 41: Soft rubber goes on leader Alonso and he is comfortably back away ahead of Vettel on the road.
Lap 40: Vettel comfortably clears Massa with a move into Copse as Alonso pits from the lead.
Lap 40: Alguersuari is 13th and 1.4s behind Schumacher, as Petrov pits from 10th place.
Lap 40: That should play out in favour of Webber as Vettel sets a storming 1m35s lap on his fresh rubber.
Lap 40: Vettel is now catching Massa on the road, as Webber pits while Button continues past and onto another lap.
Lap 40: Behind the top six, Rosberg and Perez are fighting for seventh, with Sutil ninth, Petrov 10th and Heidfeld fending off Schumacher.
Lap 39: Button is now going to try the same tactics on rival Webber.
Lap 39: It's a quick stop for Hamilton but Vettel storms past the pit exit and the McLaren is demoted to third by the undercut.
Lap 39: Hamilton responds to the Vettel stop with a pit visit of his own.
Lap 38: Even if this works for Vettel, Alonso is long gone up front and this race is now comfortably in the Spaniard's hands.
Lap 38: Vettel's final set of soft rubber goes on and he will need a quick lap or two to try and jump Hamilton.
Lap 38: Perez is now just 0.6s behind Rosberg, having cut the gap from 2.0s. He will be on the tail of the Mercedes by the end of this current lap.
Lap 38: Vettel pits in an attempt to undercut Hamilton.
