Good afternoon everyone and welcome to AUTOSPORT Live for live commentary and updates on round nine of the 2011 FIA Formula 1 world championship - the British Grand Prix from Silverstone.

Two days of inclement weather produced three hugely entertaining practice sessions and ultimately some shocks in qualifying, with little dry running on offer to the drivers.

Jaime Alguersuari and his Toro Rosso team-mate Sebastien Buemi were caught out by a quick shower midway through the first period and were mired in the elimination zone. Michael Schumacher was the next big name to be shot out in the second segment, as others produced supreme efforts to make it into the shootout.

Up front, Mark Webber leads the field away from pole position for today's 52-lap race, with his team-mate Sebastian Vettel securing a front row lockout for Red Bull Racing. Fernando Alonso is right on the pace with them over one lap, but question marks remain over a full race distance.

Felipe Massa flanks his team-mate in fourth, while Jenson Button leads the British charge from fifth after a disappointing session. One man who was anything but despondent after qualifying is Paul di Resta, who posted a sensational sixth in the Force India, while Lewis Hamilton starts from a lowly 10th on the grid. You can be sure he will attack from the off in an effort to make up ground in the first stint of the race.
